Correction: At the memorial party yesterday, I asked Carole's friend Norm Ascareggi about the "waitress' four finger lift". Norm was a bartender at Old Prague restaurant and would have heard or seen the trick. He said that it wasn't a ruse. That four waitress would stand around the seated customer. First they would place their hand above his head, each one in turn stacking their hands, and then removing their hands in reverse order. Then they would place their hands together with one finger protruding and use those four fingers at the corners of the chair to lift the chair and customer. He said that it was astonishing and appeared to be levitation.

After yesterday's memorial party for Carole at Tom and Linda's house, I was thinking about all of the pictures that all of the photos of Carole that were displayed. They showed the breadth of her life - grandmother, mother, wife, daughter, business woman, scuba diver, friend, animal protector and companion, violinist, amateur scientist. Yet even all of those photos did not capture the full extent of her experiences - boxer, waitress, master gardener, entrepreneur, political activist, gardening teacher, computer programmer, security specialist. The photos pictured her around Chicago, and in Florida, Colorado, and parts of the Caribbean, but they did not show her when she travelled to Mexico, Spain, Morocco, Argentina, Hawaii, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Nevada, or California. Considering …

Where do I start? At the beginning I guess which is a very long time ago. Other than some relatives or old school friends, I think that have known Carole the longest. Even longer than Tom!
I met Carole when I was 8 years old and that was 59 years ago. I was a shy girl, new to the neighborhood and she was the outgoing beautiful teenager next door. She was ten years older than I was but that did not matter to her. She took me under her wing and we were both friends and sisters from that moment on. I remember going over to her house and watching her put on her makeup before she would be goi…

In 2009, Tom and Linda and Carole and I vacationed in the Florida Keys. We found an interesting bird sanctuary just down the road from our resort. While there, they had a pelican feeding and allowed volunteers to do the feeding. Naturally, Carole volunteered and Linda too. This feeding always happened at the same time, so as the hour approached, pelicans were flying in from all around the area. This picture only shows about 1/4 of them.
The sanctuary director cautioned the volunteers that pelicans have serrations on their beaks and that these jagged edges point in toward their gullet so that any fish cannot escape. He said that when feeding them, you can put your hand in their mouth…

I don't know that much about this picture, only the little that Carole had mentioned in passing about her boxer Jeff - that he would sing to her violin playing. He is a large dog and for him to be "singing" while she was trying to hear the violin music - that was concentration.
I love this picture because it shows both her involvement with music and her devotion to her dog. She looks to be enjoying the interaction.
I think Jeff is the dog who Carole would exercise on her bicycle with Jeff on a leash. Given his size, this makes a lot of sense.
And picturing Carole on a bike being pulled by her dog on a leash,…
